The internet is an amazing thing. Here at Renegade Wheelchairs we once in a while come across new Renegade videos that were posted by Renegade users new and old. Some we have seen and some are completely new. Here are a few that you might not have gotten a chance to see:

Dru Baker Gets Her Renegade

Now those were from some of Renegade users, we did come across this review/interview of the Renegade with John Rackley and Draves Archery:

Our last group of videos come from the tv series North American Safari, where John Rackley is a Pro-Staffer. John was recently on two different episodes of North American Safari, take a look:

Hearing stories from our satisfied customers completely makes our day. We are continually thrilled and prideful when we hear how much the Renegade continues to change lives.

We just received this letter from a Renegade user, take a look:

Hello All, I am David Rogers, I have a spinal cord injury post 25 years ago. I have been an active hunter and adventurer nearly all of my life and this did not change after my injury. I am a nationally ranked wheelchair tennis player, avid wt. lifter, and cyclist. However, nothing makes me feel better than getting out in the woods, particularly now!

I use the Renegade Wheelchair and allow me to tell you this chair is, without a doubt in my mind, the most enabling chair on the market for people wanting to explore the outdoors! I hunt, fish, explore, and camp independently! For the first time in 23 years I stalked a deer, harvested it, then dragged it out; all independently.

The Renegade is truly a visionary product that I endorse because it provides freedom to persons with physical disabilities. I encourage any person wanting to independently go on the beach, cruise down an old dirt road, find the old fishing hole, or just go through the woods with a loved one to check out Renegade wheelchairs and read John Rackley’s story.

He and the staff at Renegade are friendly and knowledgeable. Check out www.Renegadewheelchairs.com and visit their youtube channel! Moreover feel free to call me, I will be more than happy to let you try my Renegade. Thanks for your time.

Do you have a Renegade? We would love to hear more if you want to share.

With the help of Maine Games, this was the first officially timed Renegade Challenge event, and was well recieved. Though there was rain, the competitors where unphased and were glad to see the course more wet and more muddy than ever before.

2011 Renegade Challenge

The course itself has 8 different obstacles that the competitors have to pass through; rocks, sand pit, logs, hour glass, mud hole, hill, moguls, and ends with sawdust. The winners are based on finishing times, with points being taken of for any assistance.

Are you up for the Renegade Challenge?

The next Renegade Challenge event is scheduled for Saturday, September 24th @ 11AM. For more information about the Renegade Wheelchair or about up coming Renegade Challenge events, you can visit RenegadeWheelchairs.com.

Last year (2009) Tred experienced a spinal stroke that paralyzed his legs. His recovery was remarkably quick and within months he was looking for ways to challenge himself and the great outdoors once more – it’s hard to keep a tough man down. He’s filming episodes again for his Versus show ‘The Best and Worst of Tred Barta’. It hasn’t really been a come-back – Tred Never really left. Watch him pursuing great game again and meeting the challenges he’s setting for himself on his new shows!

**UPDATE**

Since this post Tred has been on his show and using the Renegade every chance he gets. Here’s some photos of the things he’s done:

John Rackley, inventor of the Renegade All-Terrain Wheelchair had an eye opening experience on the opening day of deer season. With his Renegade, John is able to get deep into the woods at a large swamp he used to hunt at. “In the Renegade you have to zig-zag more than you do when walking and it got me disoriented before I knew it’. He had left his cell phone in the truck and didn’t have a compass or matches or any other survival gear with him.

A 30 year veteran of the woods John remarked “I’m not used to being lost, I was in familiar ground – but it still happened. I couldn’t find the tote road that use to be there, I started to get pretty scared as dark approached.” After wandering for over 5 hours John finally found the tote road and made it back to the truck – shaken and totally exhausted. A Renegade will help you get to places you haven’t been before and do things you haven’t done before – the flip side is that you may very well be exposed to some perils that you’ve never had to consider before. Always be prepared, always keep your safety first in mind.

Here’s a few things to consider before you head out:

Always keep your cell phone with you and make sure it is fully charged. If you don’t have one – get one.

Always let someone know where you’re going and what time you expect to be back

Take extra essential medication you need

If you’re going into the outdoors take the minimal survival gear with you – compass, matches, extra water, energy bars, space blanket, whistle, etc.

Do you have an experience and advice you’d like to share? Please let us all know so that we can learn from each other as we head into these new horizons. Much like the Star Trek Enterprise, the Renegade will allow a person to boldly go where they haven’t gone before, just remember, on this particular mission –you have to get back too!

This past Saturday a few hardy Renegade riders showed up in Waldoboro to try a run at Maine Game’s first cross country race. The event was held near the Medomak Valley High School at the newly completed 5k course. John Rackly, Nick Masi, and Mike Peas hit the x-country trail and gave the course a pretty good run for the money. As far as we know this is the first time wheelchair users have been able to participate in a x-country event – and we hope it’s just the beginning. Maine Games director, Jeff Scully, and John Rackley are now planning the creation of a brand new sport involving Renegades and pushing them to the maximum – coming soon to a mud hole near you!

Out of nearly 500 exhibitors Renegade was one of the few adaptive devices at the show and it was the only mobility device there. It caused quite a stir.

ESPN’s Don Mulligan did a double-take as he walked by the booth then he spent some time checking it out and interviewing John Rackley. Don said ‘It took a wheelchair-using hunter to finally design a chair that is tough enough to hunt without limits.’

Many other outdoor leaders at the show felt the same. Among others, John stopped by and chatted with Michael Waddell (Real Tree Road Trips) who seemed impressed by the Renegade. As countless others stopped to chat and pick up information many exclaimed that they had a friend or relative that would now finally have a way to get back out into the wilderness.

These guys not only help people meet the challenges of disabilities – they also provide them through high caliber athletic and recreational events. Inspired by U.S. Army Captain David Roselle and managed by good friend Nico Marcolongo, Operation Rebound is dedicated to assisting those who have served experience the rewards and benefits of challenging athletics and recreation. The program offers grants and event opportunities for those who have served as law officers, firefighters, paramedics, or in the military.

Both Nico and Dave have stepped up to that particular plate themselves with multiple tours in the Middle East. Dave lost a foot in Iraq and following his recovery and rehabilitation returned to combat duty. Dave’s remarkable story is chronicled in his autobiographical book “Back In Action”. You can get a signed copy from Nico at CAF by contacting them. The organization and the people within it certainly have plenty of heart – both the caring and the determined kind. We hope to team up with them in the future to continue to push the boundaries – push them back and reset them!

Former firefighter Adam Brown is back in the groove. “Hunting was my life”, said Adam,” And now I’m out in the woods again on my own.”Adam expressed his delight at finally overcoming issues shared by most who use wheels, “I don’t have to try to fit myself in to everybody else’s schedules anymore. I don’t have to sit around and wait until someone else feels like going hunting or feels like going with me. Thanks to the Renegade Wheelchair I can get out to the woods anytime I want to go.”

Adam is looking forward to being able to do several other things. “My fiancé’ loves to go to the beach, something we couldn’t do very well together. This summer will be different, I’ll be able to get through the sand with her no problem now.”

He is also looking forward to once again returning with his father to the fishing camp they had been going to for over 20 years which had become largely inaccessible for him recently.

On the home front, Adam is an avid Gardener who loves growing tomatoes and chili peppers. He had to build planters next to the house when he was no longer comfortable rolling out to the garden. “I could get out there but sometimes I’d get stuck. I stopped going out there unless someone was around in case that happened, then I just quit trying to go out there at all.

He said those days are gone, he has no worries at all about getting stuck with the Renegade. So, besides the great raised beds by the house he now has, he can once again exercise his green thumb over the rest of the yard.
